Laurens, and Newberry. It is located on
the Saluda and Reedy Rivers greenwood
Lake was created by the construction of
the Buzzard’s Roost Dam in 1940. Water
was initially impounded to a surface
elevation of 440, but was later revised to
439 msl. This is currently normal pond.

What's Going On New residents are coming to Greenwood Lake from all parts of the country to enjoy the lake views,boating, water sports, fishing, and golf. Greenwood Lake prices even though they have risen in the recent are still the lowest compared to other lakes in the areas. New lake developments are in the various stages of construction and more are planned for the Future greenwood SC is a mid-sized town with big city plans in it's future. The one thing that all our plans have in common is the desire to keep the small town friendliness while offering the amenities of larger cities. Retirees come to Greenwood to enjoy a quieter lifestyle, vacationers come to Greenwood to enjoy the lake and other outdoor activities so popular here. Others are relocating to an areas where they can enjoy the mild climate and a lower cost of living than in a lot of areas. Greenwood's real estate outlook has remained bright in spite of the gloom and doom forecasts heard on the nightly news casts. Real estate is local and situations are different for every area of the country. I'm happy to say it's a great time to buy real estate on Lake Greenwood or anywhere in Greenwood for that matter. | There Are Public Boat Launches The newly constructed boat launching facility near the dam was built by Duke Power on the county's behalf under the lease is one of the new requirements.Currently,an additional facility is planned for the Newberry County side and scheduled for construction in four to six years The dam is closed for 4 to 6 weeks in the winter causing some areas of the lake to become very shallow or dry up during this time. Lake property owners use this time to repair and do maintenance on their docks. |
| FERC has required the County to become more assiduous about the permitting of encroachments and enforcing regulations.With increasing development, and in order to insure that the development takes place in a way that doesn’t impact the lake and habitat areas. It took Greenwood County 10 years to become FERC compliant since then Greenwood County has become more diligent in managing the lake.In 2006, The lake management department was created to help with these requirements. In general, the Lake Management Department is responsible for issuing permits, receiving registrations, aiding with FERC requirements, lake log removal, mosquito spraying, and upkeep of public access boat ramps, at Souls Harbor, and Buzzard's Roost and other issues as they Arise greenwood County is in the process of planning an additional public access boat ramp off of River fork Road. The construction is scheduled to begin in 2007, once all regulatory permits are received. |
